Our Story

HOW IT ALL STARTED
Sharon grew up in East Brunswick New Jersey, moved to Indiana for college and then continued west to California where she has been ever since.  Sharon’s brother, sister, sister in-law, nieces and nephew still live in New Jersey. While Jeremy on the other hand, grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey, worked in the area and then moved to California in the late 1990’s for work.  His parents still live in Tenafly, while his brother lives in Florida.

THE MEETING
They both traveled 2500 miles just to meet at a bar in Venice Beach. It was LIKE at first sight!!!! They ate sushi and talked till the bar kicked them out - not like being kicked out of a bar was the first time for either of them but that is another story.  They seemed to click right away as they had much in common and agreed on a second date.  There was one slight problem, Jeremy failed to mention, due to downsizing (corporate term for getting his ass canned), he just got laid off the week before, and he would have to correct that little faux pas later after he had closed the deal.  But soon after the first date they would not see each other for over a month as Sharon went on a three week girls “roadtrip” to Vietnam and Cambodia and Jeremy would leave for a week of skiing in exciting Utah and a family vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

After their return, they still wanted to continue the dating and it eventually became a regular thing. Sharon lived in Los Angeles and Jeremy lived 45 miles south, in Laguna Beach.  So, a lot of time was spent on the 405, the freeway between Los Angeles and Laguna Beach.  If anyone does not know,(if you have been living under a rock) much of California freeways are parking lots most of the time, so the 45 miles typically took more than 90 minutes.

As time went on they would spend their time together scuba diving, surfing, camping, snow boarding and traveling to far away places like Honduras and even as far as New Jersey.  After many miles of highway traveling and living out of duffle bags, they decided to find a place together.  They currently live near the beach in Huntington Beach Surf City USA.

THE ENGAGEMENT
They had been dating for about 3 years and finally after much pushing from his parents and friends, Jeremy decided to get off the pot.  So off he went to look for wedding rings, but as the engineer that he is, before heading out he did tons of research, learning the 4 C’s, knowing what to look for in a diamond and most important of all, knowing what kind of ring Sharon wanted.  This last part Jeremy had covered, as good friend of Sharon’s (Shari Perea) had done some preliminary legwork and knew the cut (one of the 4 C’s) and style that Sharon liked for her ring.

After the ring purchase, Jeremy then wanted to make the proposal a memorable moment so a plan was devised. His plan was to setup 2 chairs, a table with champagne, a plate of grapes and cheese under a canopy surrounded by tiki torches on the beach beforehand without Sharon’s knowledge.  Then bring Sharon to the beach and take a sunset walk along the waters edge, which we do on occasion anyway so it would not be a surprise, then, get on one knee and do the speech.  After presenting the ring and her saying yes (He was assuming that would be the answer) they would walk to the already setup canopy and enjoy the drinks and food while watching the sunset. One of Sharon’s friends was to come down on the big day to help Jeremy with the plan and take care of some of the “fuffy” stuff.

Well the day before the proposal day, after everything was set, Sharon came home and said that she was leaving the next day to the east coast for a job interview. OH MY GOD, NOW WHAT?????? The plan needed to be revised, the BIG DAY needed to be postponed.  Upon Sharon’s return, the plan remained the same, the canopy and the other stuff was set up, we went for a walk and along the waters edge, and Jeremy sat Sharon down and proposed. The speech was not what he had rehearsed but he got his point across and before her answer all Sharon could say was ”are you serious”, but in the end she said YES.  We then returned to the canopy to relax and enjoy the rest of the day, phone calls were made and Jeremy’s work was done...or so he thought...
